Felt Pumpkin Fall Table Runner Pattern

With Halloween just around the corner and fall is in full swing, I feel like my kitchen is a bit bare.  It is in need of some major fall decor.  I know I already have tons of great Halloween projects I've done.  But I can't stop creating, so I figured the fastest and easiest project would be to make a fall table runner pattern that would fit my table.  But what should I make?  I needed something that my children would enjoy and also not destroy immediately.

Well, I've been thinking on this for a bit and just a few days ago I saw the cutest jack-o-lantern table runner. It was like $20! I was not about to pay $20 when I knew I could come up with my own table runner pattern for free plus use what I already had on hand at home.  (Whose with me on this?)  No knock to the table runner.  It is way cute but being the creative that I am, I just had to make my own.  

Of course once I decided what I wanted to do, I had to come share it with my amazing readers.  They'd want to make one for themselves to put on their kitchen table or coffee table.  To enjoy Halloween and fall.  And all for less than $5!!  That is way better than $20.

How to Make a Fall Pumpkin Table Runner

Materials Needed:

3 pieces of orange felt

1 piece of green felt

1 piece of black felt

1 piece of brown felt

I purchased the stiffened felt. Meaning it is already starched. It was a bit more expensive, but worth it!

Fabric Glue

exacto knife or true control knife

scissors

Let me start by saying you can totally sew these pumpkins together.  However, this makes a great craft for kids.  So I decided to use glue instead and let my kids help create a bit.

Step 1

Cut out the pumpkin table runner pattern pieces.  You'll need 3 pumpkins or more if you want them to go down your entire table. You can leave them as pumpkins or you can make them into Jack-o-Lanterns.  

If you wish to do Jack-o-Lanterns, decide what faces you want them to have and draw them on the felt lightly with a pencil.  Then cut them out with either an exacto knife or scissors.

Step 2

Cut out the leaf pattern pieces.  You can make your leaves any color you'd like.  I went with green just to add some color.  But you could do red, brown or even yellow.  

Step 3

Cut out enough stem pattern pieces so that each pumpkin has one.  I made my stems brown, but you could use tan or even green.

Step 4

Cut out your spider. I did mine in black but you could do brown or even purple.  He's a pretty cute spider.

Step 5

Lay out your pumpkins.  Decide where each pumpkin will go.  I started in the center and went out.  Make sure that each pumpkin overlaps somehow so that you can attach them together.  Once you've decided where the pumpkins will go, place a dab of glue on the back of the pumpkins and glue them together.

Step 6

Once all the pumpkins are glued together, glue your stems to the backside of the pumpkins and add your leaves and spider where they look best on your table runner pattern.  Allow it to dry.
